We went May 3, 2024 and arrived at the trailhead around 7am. The entire way up was in shade, which was welcome. We are in our late 60s and hiking poles were very helpful. Make sure to learn how to… Full review by Mommy593

Great trail with amazing views. Good climb to get to the top. Have to watch your footing due to loose rocks and steps which could be ankle or knee twisters. Overall well worth the effort to do the wh… Full review by djproco

Go as early as possible. There are only a small number of parking spots, so if you don't show up early, you will be in trouble finding parking spots. You may leave your car way down in the hikers' pa… Full review by minimize940314
About how long does it take to reach the top? I know we'll be stopping along the way and taking pictures. Wondering if we should pack a lunch or if it will be short enough to eat when we get back down. Thanks!

We just hiked about halfway up and enjoyed the view from an overlook. We did it in the afternoon in October of last year (2017). I am 70 and my wife is a few years younger. You can probably hike all the way up and much faster than we did but......I would take something to eat and water. Also, there are bears around the parking lot (yes bears in the Chisos Mountains). I would recommend getting there early as there is a small parking lot and it does get busy.
I’m afraid of heights but can do hikes if the path seem safe (I can handle the Santa Elena Canyon trail with a bit of a pep talk)- would this trail be too scary?

I was surprised at how ample this trail is. There are parts that have had finishing work done on them, which make it seem somewhat like a stroll through a city park, instead of up the side of a mountain. I’d describe this as more of a “rolling hills” type hike vs. cliffs/steep drop offs. Vistas are so worth it!
