The disturbance is forecast to become a hurricane Wednesday and will strengthen as it crosses the eastern Gulf of Mexico.

Tropical Storm Helene formed in the Caribbean on Tuesday and could become Hurricane Helene before it strikes Florida later this week.

Hurricane watches have been issued along Florida’s western coastline, including Tampa Bay, as forecasters monitor a Caribbean storm that’s expected to gather steam in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
