The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) is attempting to block the closing of “empty” and “failing” public schools in Chicago despite experts calling for closures and consolidations. According to a report from Wirepoints,

Chicago projects that it will have to pay about $660 million toward teacher pensions in 2025. The district wants to consolidate local and state teacher pension funds to cut costs and direct money to schools.

The bargaining session comes as there are growing calls for Chicago Public Schools Chief Executive Officer Pedro Martinez to step down.Megan Hickey reports.
