Ohio Republican Gov. Mike DeWine delivered his strongest condemnation yet of former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, for their continued false claims regarding Haitian migrants in Springfield.

Despite digressions involving cats and a hiccup on abortion policy, Trump has grown close to Vance, talking with him almost every day and cheering on his frequent TV appearances.

The mayor of Springfield, Ohio, has confirmed a Wall Street Journal report that the Trump campaign echoed false claims about Haitian immigrants since the September presidential debate – despite the city informing a campaign staffer the day before the rumors were “baseless.

"It is disappointing to me that Springfield has become the epicenter of vitriol over America's immigration policy...," Mike DeWine wrote.
