One Ellen Ochoa Middle School student is being investigated after the Prince George’s County Police Department said he brought a gun into school Monday.

On Wednesday, at approximately 12:45 p.m., the Prince George’s County Police Department was notified by school security personnel that a firearm had been recovered from a 13-year-old male student’s bookbag. The investigation revealed that other students had alerted school officials about the possible presence of a firearm, prompting the search.

Prince George’s County Public Schools Chief Operating Officer Charoscar Coleman is praising the students who did the right thing and reported the gun. He also said Ochoa Middle will now be getting a gun detection system.
